The Honest Guide to Skip Hire Costs in Ireland (2026)

Oct 20
2 min read

There is no single price for skip hire in Ireland, and any site quoting one national figure is guessing. The price of a skip comes down to two things: its size and where it is going. This guide covers what decides the price, what is included and how to avoid paying more than you need to.

What decides the price

  • Size: the biggest factor. Our sizes run from a 2-yard mini skip to a 40-yard roll-on.

  • Your address: prices vary by area, which is why the price page asks for your Eircode.

  • The type of waste: mixed construction and demolition waste has its own specialist 14-yard skip.

Enter your Eircode on the price page and you will see every size available at your address with its price, before you book.

What is included

  • Delivery to your address

  • Collection when you are finished

  • Disposal of the waste

  • A standard hire period of 4 days. If the job will take longer, mention it when booking.

Standard delivery takes 1-4 working days, so book ahead if you are working to a deadline.

What is not included

If the skip has to sit on a public road or footpath, you need a council permit. You apply and pay for it directly with the council, so the fee is separate from the skip price. A skip on your own driveway needs no permit and costs nothing extra. Our skip permit guide lists the council for every county.

How to keep the cost down

  • Pick the right size. If you are torn between two, the bigger one usually costs less than a second skip. The skip size guide shows roughly what each size holds.

  • Put the skip on your driveway if you can, so there is no permit fee.

  • Have everything ready to go in before the skip arrives, so the 4-day hire period covers the job.

When a skip is not the cheapest option

A skip makes sense when you will fill it yourself over a few days. For a handful of bulky items, or if you would rather not do the lifting, junk removal can work out cheaper. The crew loads everything into the van, so there is no skip and no permit.

  • Junk removal: single item from €49, quarter van load from €200, half load from €350, full load from €650, with labour and disposal included.

  • Man with a van: single items from €40, furniture pickups from €60, small flat moves from €180.

  • House clearance: one fixed price for the whole property, worked out from your photos.

Junk removal and house clearance prices are fixed from your photos before anything is collected, and you only go ahead if you are happy with the price.
