Skip Hire, Junk Removal & Clearance in County Cork

4 min read

If you live or work in County Cork and have rubbish, furniture or a whole house of belongings to deal with, this guide is for you. It covers the four services people ask us about most: skip hire, junk removal, house clearance and a man with a van.

We cover 28 towns across the county. Below you will find how to pick the right service for your job, when a council permit is needed, what affects the price, and how to get a quote from SkipNow.ie.

Which service suits your job?

The right choice depends mostly on how much there is, who is going to do the lifting, and whether you want to be involved.

Skip hire suits a job where you will be filling the skip yourself over a few days: a kitchen refit, a garden clear-out, a renovation. Delivery, collection and disposal are included, and the standard hire period is 4 days. Standard delivery is 1 to 4 working days.

Junk removal suits you if you would rather not lift anything. Our crew loads straight into the van, so there is no skip and no council permit. It works well for a single old sofa, a garage clear-out or leftovers after a job. We are licensed waste carriers and fully insured, and most jobs are collected within 1 to 3 working days of you accepting the quote. Same-day is sometimes possible Tuesday to Thursday.

House clearance is for a whole property: probate, end-of-tenancy and downsizing clearances. The contents are sorted on site and good items go to charity where possible. Sentimental items can be set aside, and items of value can be offset against the cost. Most single-occupancy homes are cleared in one working day, and larger homes take 1 to 2 days.

A man with a van is for moving things rather than throwing them out: a single item, a furniture pickup, a small flat move, or a charity drop-off on request. We use blankets and straps on every job, and a two-man crew is available for heavy items. Same-day is sometimes possible Tuesday to Thursday.

Skip permits in County Cork

A skip on a private driveway needs no permit. If the skip has to go on a public road or footpath, you apply to the council for a permit yourself, directly.

In County Cork the council is Cork City Council or Cork County Council, depending on the address. Cork County Council's site is corkcoco.ie, and Cork City Council has its own. Check which council covers your address before you apply, and have the permit sorted before the skip is delivered.

Junk removal, house clearance and man with a van jobs need no council permit. The crew loads straight into the van, so nothing is left on the road. If you cannot fit a skip on your property and do not fancy the permit process, one of these may be the easier route.

What affects the price

For skips, the price depends on the skip size and the exact address. You enter your Eircode on the price page and it shows the sizes and prices available for you. Delivery, collection and disposal are included.

For junk removal, you get a fixed price from your photos before we collect anything. Guide prices, with labour and disposal included: single item from €49, quarter van load from €200, half load from €350, and full load from €650.

House clearance is priced as one fixed job for the whole property, based on photos of each room, the garage, the shed and the attic. Anything of value can be offset against the cost.

For a man with a van, the price is fixed from a photo or list plus the pickup and drop-off addresses. Single items start from €40, furniture pickups from €60, and small flat moves from €180. Bigger or longer moves are quoted individually.

How to get a price or book

For a skip, go to the price page, enter your Eircode and pick the size that suits your job. You will see the price for your address before you book.

For junk removal, house clearance or a man with a van, send us photos of what needs to go, or a photo or list of what needs moving, along with the addresses where relevant. We come back with a fixed price. Once you accept the quote, we book the job in.

If you need a certificate of disposal, ask when you book. It is available on request for junk removal, and for house clearance it is available for landlords and executors.

Check skip sizes and prices for your address on the price page.
